iGEM

iGEM

The international genetically engineered machines competition (iGEM) is a rapidly growing global Synthetic Biology competition that is organised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.

The competition involves teams of university students supported by academic advisors, which each develop a novel biological system using Synthetic Biology techniques. In addition to the work in the lab iGEM teams also engage in 'Human Practices' in which teams must explore the broader societal, ethical and economic implications of Synthetic Biology.
